As the oldest continuing human culture on earth, Aboriginal peoples have been living on this land for at least 65,000 years, and their history and culture have uniquely shaped Australia as a nation. Australia is also a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) nation which has been enriched by the contribution of cultures from many nations.

Culture impacts on all aspects of a person’s life - the Guild and its community pharmacy members are committed to supporting high quality, culturally safe and appropriate pharmacy services, and to the development and application of Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) strategies in community pharmacy which acknowledges and responds to the specific needs of the diverse cultural needs of their local community and opportunities for specific services to be implemented.

Engagement with the local community is essential when designing and delivering healthcare services. The Cultural Engagement Forum will include a facilitated session by the Guild’s Cultural Advisor who will deliver an interactive and engaging workshop, where the content resonates with delegates.

The forum will also explore different ways of increasing engagement and building respectful relationships by working in partnership with our diverse communities for the provision of care which is culturally responsive.

In 2024, the inaugural “Cultural Engagement” Video Competition will be held. This is an opportunity for community pharmacies across Australia to showcase how they provide a culturally safe environment and are responsive to the needs of culturally diverse populations in their local community, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, to ensure their health care needs are met. Prizes include a full free APP2025 Registration.
